In 1935, Martin O'Donoghue founded O'Donoghue & O'Donoghue as a union-side labor law firm. Since that time, the Firm has dedicated its practice to advancing the rights of working men and women locally in the Mid-Atlantic region and nationally across the United States. Over the years and decades, O'Donoghue & O'Donoghue LLP's labor practice has grown both in size and prestige so that the Firm is now one of the oldest and largest union-side labor law firms in the United States.
"The essence of trade unionism is social uplift. The labor movement has been the haven for the dispossessed, the despised, the neglected, the downtrodden, and the poor. (A. Philip Randolph)"
"The fight is never about grapes or lettuce. It is always about people. (Cesar Chavez)"
"With all their faults, trade unions have done more for humanity than any organization of men that ever existed. They have done more for decency, for honesty, for education, for the betterment of the race, for the developing of character in men, than any other association of men. (Clarence Darrow)"
O'Donoghue attorneys represent international unions, regional labor organizations and local unions in the private and public sector. The firm serves as the general counsel to three international unions in the building and construction trades. As general counsel, the firm's attorneys provide legal advice and representation to these international unions in every aspect of their affairs, from organizing new employees to negotiating collective bargaining agreements, promoting effective political action and administering internal union affairs. The Firm's attorneys represent these international unions, along with many of their local unions, in Federal and state court. The Firm's attorneys also represent these unions before the National Labor Relations Board, the Federal Labor Relations Authority and the Office of Compliance, as well as before a wide range of administrative agencies. The firm's extensive practice as general counsel to these international unions provides O'Donoghue attorneys with a close familiarity with the operations of international labor organizations and with the unique characteristics of individual labor organizations.
